SPONSORSHIP:
RAG stands for Raising and Giving so of course the fundraising element of this event is crucial. Although, the minimum sponsorship is £50, we want everyone to raise as much money as they can for charity!
You have until Friday 15th December 2023 to raise and pay in the £50. Gift Aid does not count towards your sponsorship. There's plenty of help and guidance on how to raise your sponsorship in our fundraising pack which is emailed out to all ticket holders after they've purchased a ticket.
All fundraised money must be paid directly to Sheffield RAG either online via GiveStar (CLICK HERE TO SEE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE FUNDRAISING PAGE STATING HOW TO DO THIS) or in cash and deposited via The Activities Zone Desk in the SU.
WHERE YOUR MONEY IS GOING:
The ticket price goes towards the running of the event whilst all the sponsorship money raised will go to local good causes. 50% of the money raised will go to Whirlow Hall Farm Trust (the halfway point) - a charitable organisation where children with disadvantaged backgrounds are offered educational experiences and opportunities. The rest of the money raised will be divided between the following 2 local good causes; Roundabout and Emmaus Sheffield.
Any Gift Aid claimed on donations to fundraising pages linked to this event will not count toward the fundraising total of this page and will be used to meet the core costs of running the Sheffield RAG programme.
WHAT TO DO ON THE DAY:
Arrive at The Activities and Sports Zone in The Student’s Union
at 3pm on Saturday 2nd December 2023.
Here you will be checked in and given your high-vis jacket and a map. It is from here that everyone begins Step Into Christmas!
PLEASE DRESS APPROPRIATELY FOR A NIGHT WALK IN DECEMBER. We strongly recommend that you wear warm clothes (hat, scarf, gloves, jumpers etc) and suitable footwear (flat shoes with good grip that are comfortable to walk long distances in) and bring a waterproof. We strongly advise you don’t wear jeans as when they get wet, they stay wet. It will be cold and could be wet and windy so please be prepared and wear lots of layers!
Bring a torch with you! This is a night walk and you will need a torch to see your map and the path ahead of you. Try outdoor shops and discount stores but make sure that you have enough battery power and a torch strong enough for a night hike- we do not recommend using your phone torch.
Remember to bring your phone with you fully charged on the night and change your next of kin contact name to ICE (in case of emergency) in your mobile. In case of emergency we can then contact your family straight away.
Bring a bottle of water with you, you’ll need to keep hydrated on the walk. Maybe even a flask and hot drink!
Please remember at all times that you’re representing The University of Sheffield, so be conscious of noise levels and behaviour. We want you to have a great time but not at the expense of the local community or the wellbeing of others!
Please complete the walk and come back to the Students’ Union. It is of the upmost importance that each individual returns to the SU Check Point once the walk has ended so we can note that you have completed the walk safely.
Failure to check in after the walk will result in us assuming you are missing. If you wish to leave the event early you must let us know by phone.
There will be a Safety Phone in operation on the night, if you need any help, you are lost or someone in your group is injured, please call us. Although in the case of real emergencies, call 999 first if needed, then please call us! The number will be given to you on the night.
